WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR:

Winnow Literary
seeks poetry submissions that reflect the full range of the human experience with occupation across the lifespan. We aim to publish poetry that honors the meaning in the daily ordinary, the complexity of the quote-unquote “simplest” tasks. The interaction of the environments in which we live, learn, work and play with our own needs, values and occupational roles as individuals, groups, local, regional, and global societies.  We invite submissions from all writers:  new, emerging, or established. Occupational therapy practitioners, occupational therapy faculty, and OT/OTA students are encouraged to submit, as well as clients, patients, and past, present, or future consumers of occupational therapy services. Interprofessional health care providers, and writers-at-large are also highly encouraged to submit.

HOW TO SUBMIT:

We are open for submissions to our first issue between September 9th, 2024 through November 29th, 2024 (Guest Editor, Winnie Dunn). Please send 1-3 poems in the body of an email or as an attachment to winnowliterary@gmail.com using the subject line “Poetry Submission”. There is no fee to submit. Please also include a brief biography (written in third person format) along with your submission. We request first serial publication rights in a digital format, and for our first issue we plan to pay a $100 honorarium per accepted poem. We aim to respond within 2-4 months of the opening of our reading period.

Simultaneous submissions (sending your work to another journal while awaiting a response from us) is fine, but please do let us know as soon as possible if your work is accepted elsewhere. All submitted poems should be otherwise unpublished. Dual-language poems are also encouraged (please include an English translation alongside the poem in its original language). We discourage the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) as part of the writing or editing process. Our editorial team is committed to adapting our submissions process as needed to support individual needs or disability accommodations. If the submission process presents barriers to your access please reach out to us at WinnowLiterary@gmail.com.

We look forward to reading your work!
